Now that you have decided to schedule your first spray tanning session, it's time to start preparing for the experience. Here are a few things to consider.

Makeup and Deodorant

You should not wear any makeup deodorant or even perfumes during your spray tanning session because these things can act as a barrier and prevent the tanning solution from penetrating the skin and creating the glow that you are looking for. Therefore, you must consider whether or not you're comfortable with leaving the house without applying these things or if you would rather remove everything once you get to the tanning salon.

If you choose the latter option, bring along some makeup-removing wipes and a damp washcloth that's been sealed in a resealable baggie in case removal tools are not available at the salon. If you forget, don't fret – chances are that you'll be provided with at least a sink and soap that can be used to clean off.

Tan Lines

If you want no tan lines, you will have to get completely nude for your tanning session. Your service provider is used to this scenario, and they see people of all shapes and sizes. So there is nothing to be shy about if you choose this route. Once you do it a few times, it shouldn't seem weird anymore. If you are not comfortable with being nude and you don't mind some tan lines, you can wear a small bikini top and some thongs during your session.

Hair Protection

You can put your hair in a bun to keep it off your neck so it doesn't get stained with tanning solution and it does not inhibit access to your skin. However, keep in mind that the tanning spray cannot be completely controlled, so it can easily get into your hair just as it will get on the walls of the tanning tent you're in. If you are worried about your hair getting stained, consider bringing along a shower cap to wear during your tanning session. Just remember to keep your ears out of the cap so they don't end up a different color than the rest of your body.

Dressing for Home

Once your spray tan is dry to the touch, you can get dressed and go home. However, the tanning solution can rub off on your clothing for a day or so after your session. So it's a good idea to bring along a pair of thongs and some loose-fitting clothes to wear home that won't rub against your body a lot when you move. If you are worried about tanning solutions staining your clothes, consider investing in some disposable clothes to wear under a sweatsuit or long dress.

Keep these tips in mind when visiting a tanning salon near you.
